I am starting this blogspot for myself and anyone who is interested in energy audit information. We can exchange info, ideas, technologies, and pass the word onto everyone.I have 20+ years experience in construction, infrared, and energy auditing contractor. To help afford the time I spend in keeping this blog open and replying to posts, I will plug my CD book on DIY Home energy audits and energy repairs. It can be found on ebay and on my website at: http://www.cirtc.com/IESCD.html Good stuff, everyone who has bought it found it well worth the $22.95. OK, enough of that...
My first spot is regarding the use of reflective foil for energy savings. I'm not talking about aluminum foil, but close. This is more flexible and is used in insulating homes. It is a rather inexpensive item that can be purchased at any local home center. Wrap water heaters, pipes , HVAC ducts, and also a great place is in the attic. One application of foil applied to attic rafters can change an attic temperature from 130 degrees to 90. Why? b/c foil reflects heat. This is the same reason you can place aluminum foil in the oven and pull it out w/o mitts. Try it.
So, this stops the heat from entering your home in the summer and in the winter, it bounces the heat loss from your home back in. The return on investment (ROI) on one roll of this foil for $50 is calculated at roughly $100 per year. A yearly ROI that is 200% is phenomenal. So each roll basically pays for itself in 6 months. I don't sell or make this stuff, I just use it, recommend it, and like to pass on useful info to people who are interested.
Any questions, post a reply.
